Track Mountain Gorillas and Explore Rwanda’s Wild Beauty with Expert Guides

When Is The Best Time To Go To Rwanda?

The best time to visit Rwanda is during the dry season from June to September, when weather conditions are ideal for trekking and wildlife viewing. These months offer the most comfortable hiking conditions for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park, with minimal rainfall and a lower risk of malaria. It’s also a popular time to explore Rwanda’s other highlights like Akagera and Nyungwe Forest.

Although gorilla trekking is available year-round, visiting during the wet seasons (March–May and October–November) can be more challenging due to muddy, slippery trails and increased rainfall. Trekkers should be in reasonably good physical condition, as the hikes into Rwanda’s dense, mountainous jungle terrain can be demanding. Regardless of the season, the chance to encounter mountain gorillas in the wild makes the journey truly unforgettable.

Month By Month Guide For Travelling To Rwanda:

Visiting Rwanda In Jan & Feb

January and February bring warm days and cool nights in areas like Kigali, Lake Kivu, Volcanoes, and Nyungwe parks, while Akagera remains warm throughout. This dry season is ideal for Rwanda safaris and forest treks, but it’s a popular time—so expect higher prices and book your gorilla trekking in advance.

Visiting To Rwanda From Mar To May

March to mid-May marks Rwanda’s rainy season. While gorilla trekking is still possible, trails are muddy and require proper rain gear. April remains wet, making hikes in the Virungas challenging. By mid-May, rains ease, crowds thin, and birdlife thrives—making it ideal for birdwatchers and last-minute trekking permits.

Visiting Uganda From Oct To Dec

If you’re undeterred by a little mud, this is a great time to enjoy fewer crowds and reduced rates on gorilla trekking permits, lodges, and hotels—ideal for budget-conscious travelers.
