Climate Guide

Understand the region's weather patterns to pack perfectly for your safari.

Uganda has two primary rainy seasons, occurring from March to May and September to December in most regions. In contrast, the northern region experiences one long wet season from March to October. Although annual rainfall varies regionally, it is generally substantial. Average year-round temperatures are moderate at 22.8 °C, with monthly values between 21.7 °C and 23.9 °C. The southwestern highlands, influenced by higher altitude, experience cooler temperatures ranging from 7 °C to 27 °C.

Rwanda also experiences a temperate tropical highland climate, with average daily temperatures between 16°C and 21°C (60–70°F) as a result of its high elevation. This elevation contributes to consistently cool conditions throughout the year. Rwanda receives substantial annual rainfall, typically ranging from 800 to 1,500 millimetres, and experiences two main rainy seasons from March to May and September to November, similar to the seasonal observed in Uganda.
