Road Safety

Road Safety

Essential driving and transport safety information for East Africa.

East Africa's roads include smooth tarmac in city centers and major highways, and rough murram feeder roads in rural and national park areas. Most highways are single-carriageway. Only a few dual-carriageways exist in major cities.

In cities and other urban areas, diverse road users are present, including motorcyclists who may sometimes disregard established traffic rules. Understanding road conditions and complying with traffic regulations is vital for safety when traveling in East Africa.
