6-Day Rwanda Primate Safari: Gorillas, Chimpanzees & Golden Monkeys

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed and begin a scenic 2–3-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park, with lunch served en route. Upon arrival at your lodge, you will check in and spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing and preparing for the upcoming safari activities.

Today, you will enjoy an unforgettable mountain gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park. After breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing on the trekking guidelines. You will then set out with experienced ranger guides to track a habituated gorilla family in the forest.

Upon locating the gorillas, you will have up to one hour to observe them in their natural habitat. After this remarkable experience, return to your lodge to relax and spend the night.

Early in the morning, enter the park for a guided golden monkey tracking experience. These lively primates are typically found on the lower to mid-slopes of the mountains, where they thrive at lower altitudes. You will have up to one hour to observe them as they move and interact in their natural habitat.
In the afternoon, you will take part in a cultural experience of Iby’Iwacu to gain insight into the traditional lifestyles, customs, and heritage of the Rwandan people.

In the early morning, enjoy breakfast before embarking on a scenic five-hour drive to Nyungwe National Park. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding natural environment.

On this day, you will encounter mankind’s closest relatives—the chimpanzees—in Nyungwe Forest. After an early breakfast, you will take a short drive to the registration center for a briefing before entering the forest for your chimpanzee tracking experience. The activity typically lasts between 2 and 5 hours, depending on the location of the chimps. Once they are found, you will have up to one hour to observe and photograph them in their natural habitat.
After the trek, you will embark on a scenic five-hour drive back to Kigali City for your overnight stay.

After breakfast, spend the morning exploring Kigali with visits to key sites of economic, social, and cultural significance. Highlights include the Kigali Genocide Memorial, local craft markets, and the Kandt House Museum.
Following the city tour, you will be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
